OVERVIEW:
ECU Tuning Group’s (ETG) proprietary software for the Audi R8 4.2 liter FSI® V8 engine maximizes vehicle performance, without compromising safety, reliability, or comfort.
ECU tuning refers to rewriting or remapping the software in your vehicle’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) — sometimes referred to as an Electronic or Engine Control Module (ECM) — to improve the vehicle’s performance and/or responsiveness. The manufacturer generally uses conservative maps in the ECU to allow for slight variations across motors, poor fuel quality, and inadequate maintenance or neglect by owners.
ETG’s software is designed to safely increase horsepower and torque across the powerband, and improve the overall responsiveness of the vehicle, while maintaining the built-in safety features (e.g., knock control). With a significant increase in performance, customers expect fuel economy to worsen. But the reality is, depending on your driving style, fuel economy can improve by 10-15%, particularly when cruising at highway speeds.
In stock form, the heart-pumping 4.2 liter FSI® V8 engine features race-winning technology, such as FSI direct injection and sodium-cooled exhaust valves, providing relentless power. By uploading new software to the MED 9 Engine Control Unit, or ECU, we make adjustments to engine parameters, such as increasing boost, ignition timing, cam timing, fuel injection, and more to increase the output of the vehicle’s 4.2 liter FSI® V8 engine.
On most vehicles, ETG also adjusts the electronic throttle control (drive-by-wire) maps for better pedal response, transmission maps for quicker shifts, raise the rev limiter, and remove the speed governor.
With some of ETG’s software, it is best to Bench Flash the ECU (we remove the ECU, reprogram, bring it back, and reinstall — or remove and ship the ECU to us) or add a piggyback Performance Module. With the Audi R8 4.2 liter FSI® V8, we are able to re-program (also known as “Flashing”) the vehicle’s ECU directly though the OBD port. It’s fast and convenient, with no downtime!

In some cases, it is best that we bench flash the ECU, so the ECU should be shipped to us via overnight delivery. Alternately, we can come to your home or office, remove the ECU, bench flash, and then return to reinstall the part.
