BMW vehicles from MY 2000-onward can be programmed via OBD-II or via Bench Flash. The F cars can be programmed via OBD-II only (no Bench Flash). Mobile ECU Tuning (MET) also offers ETG’s piggyback Performance Module. The Module controls cam timing, boost, etc. One benefit of the Module is that you can put the vehicle back to stock at any time, in just a matter of seconds (e.g., before taking your vehicle in for service). Another plus is that the Module can be transferred to another BMW. Although the Module makes less power than the Flash, if you have an F car, and you service it at the Dealer, you will want to go with the Module. The Flash will be overwritten every time the vehicle goes in for service. Since the Module is essentially a piggyback ECU, it is not affected when the stock ECU is reflashed at the Dealer.
